Our Wedding

Our Story:

In January 2023, Audrey and Nick quietly met through the Catholic Newman Clubs at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon. Their paths crossed during CMU Newman's weekly "Chit Chats" event, where Fr Reed Frey was leading discussion on John Paul II's Theology of the Body. Audrey, invited by her friends Regan and Sarah, found herself drawn not only to the engaging topics but also to Nick (initially unbeknownst to him). What started as a weekly club event became a chance to see him, and their connection grew from there.

As the weeks went by, Nick and Audrey’s conversations grew deeper during the walks home from each session. A quiet (not really; it was pretty obvious by April) crush developed between them, though it remained unspoken. However, Nick was discerning a monastic vocation and had plans to spend time at the the Monastery of Christ in the Desert in New Mexico in May 2023. "Objectively higher state of life" language aside, the day Nick came back from New Mexico, he asked Audrey out on their first date.

Their first date began after a Monday 5:15 Mass at the Oratory, with dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant in Shadyside. They explored the neighborhood and visited Sacred Heart Church, where their conversations about faith deepened their connection. The night ended on a parking garage rooftop, watching the sunset. A second date followed at a park in Schenley Heights neighborhood (the spot where Nick would later get down on one knee!). Audrey then left for a week-long family trip to Yosemite, and the distance gave some space for reflection. Upon her return, Nick asked Audrey to be his girlfriend and they walked home in the rain for the first of many times (thank you, Pittsburgh weather).

Their story evolved through day trips to Washington, D.C., family gatherings, and a shared faith journey. They navigated college life and their commitment grew, supported by family, friends, and their faith. Even halfway (a quarter of the way?) around the world on separate trips to Italy, they ran into each other, something all too easily taken as a sign of something more. Soon enough, Nick was planning his proposal (and was pretty bad at keeping a lid on things). Although he initially planned for the end of summer, a canceled Ancient Greek class allowed for an earlier engagement. On June 27, the Feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Nick proposed in the park where they had their second date, and Audrey’s “yes” marked the beginning of their forever.

Since then, they have been preparing for marriage with intention, prayer, and gratitude with a lot of lattes and cappuccinos as they finish the final semesters of their undergraduate degrees. As they approach their wedding day, they appreciate your prayers for the next chapter.

Anthony, Nick’s best man, is a longtime friend whose bond with Nick grew through deep conversations, shared adventures, and a mutual love of philosophy, history, and Pittsburgh. A former rugby player and mechanic turned philosophy student, Anthony is as sharp-witted as he is kindhearted. Anthony is eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child this spring. Nick is honored to have such a steadfast and loyal friend stand by his side on his wedding day.

Pat, Nick's groomsman, a published author, and fellow Central Catholic student turned college best friend, is also quite awesome. Pat and Nick are close friends, and they have bonded through overly elaborate board games, a general sense of wonder, strange philosophical commitments, nerdy obsessions over theological minutia, and—most importantly—love of Christ and the Church. Pat is a great man to have as a groomsman, and Nick is looking forward to returning the favor for Patrick in his September wedding to Lea!

Sophia, the Bride's younger sister, is a northern transplant at UNC Chapel Hill. When she's not studying, Sophia enjoys spending her time memeing, scheming, and dreaming. The Bride and her are as thick as thieves, having shared a bedroom for 13 years—enough time to solidify a bond as strong as iron. There is simply too much tomfoolery to write here, but just know, Sophia is a homie, and Audrey thanks God every day for giving her such a gift in a little sister. Sophia and Nick get along like two peas in a pod, and Nick is excited to gain a little sister in Sophia

Emily, Audrey's bridesmaid, is more than just a lifelong friend—she's like a sister in every way that counts. Now a second-year medical student, Emily and Audrey have shared countless experiences together, from navigating sports and siblings to surviving Bishop Watterson, city college life, and now the journey through medicine. Despite taking on the world, Emily always finds time for a witty comeback, making her the perfect companion through all of life’s ups and downs. Audrey is overjoyed to begin this new chapter with her older sister, who has always been there for her with a heart of gold.

Ana, Audrey’s matron of honor, is not just an older sister but also her best friend and the other half of the "A-Team."  Ana and Audrey share a bond that has only deepened over the years, much like fine wine. Though they now live two states apart, their connection remains strong, with phone calls almost every day. Ana has been a constant source of inspiration, guiding Audrey through many life chapters, including the biggest one yet—marriage. Audrey thanks God daily for blessing her with such a loving sister to support her through this new season. Ana recently married her husband, Fred, and they welcome prayers for their marriage.

Oliver, Audrey’s older brother and witness for the wedding, is the best big brother a girl could ask for. Always abundantly helpful and present to his family, Oliver sets a great example when it comes to marriage. His support and guidance have been invaluable to Audrey, and he’s thrilled to welcome Nick as another brother-in-law.

When Should I RSVP?

What Time Should I Arrive To The Ceremony?

Please arrive at Sacred Heart by 1:45 PM, particularly if you will need to find parking. The doors of Sacred Heart Church will be open all afternoon, and confessions will be heard prior to the wedding Mass (Here are <a href="https://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/sacraments-and-sacramentals/penance/examinations-of-conscience" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">some examinations of conscience</a>). Lastly, please be respectful of the sacred space. You are welcome and encouraged to pray before the Mass begins, and please genuflect towards the tabernacle (which is in a beautiful side chapel) or bow towards the main altar before taking your seat.

Can I Bring A Plus One?

Unfortunately, plus ones cannot generally be accommodated. Therefore, we ask that our guests please do not bring a plus one unless they are specifically listed on your invitation. That being said, please reach out to the bride or groom to clarify your status. We will be able to accommodate a very limited number of exceptions.

Can I Bring My Children?

Yes! Children are so important and are a beautiful witness of the fruitfulness and love of marriage. Such amazing memories for little ones can be formed during these special celebrations! High chairs will be provided upon the parents' request; please make a note on your RSVP next to the allergy section or contact the bride if you will need this accommodation. Take this opportunity to pray for your children, as Saints Anne and Joachim once prayed for their daughter, Mary, the Mother of God. Lastly, if you are expecting (congratulations!!!) and anything changes regarding your RSVP or the number of guests in your party, please contact the bride or groom.

Can We Take Photos During The Ceremony?

We will have professional photography, and our wedding ceremony will occur during the Mass, so we kindly ask all guests to refrain from using their phones or other cameras. We want all guests to be present in the moment, so we kindly ask that there be no pictures or videos be taken until after we have walked down the aisle together. Thank you in advance for respecting our wishes!

Allergy Accomodations / What's On The Menu?

Many close friends and family have allergies or specialized diets. To inform the bride and groom of any dietary restrictions, please check the allergy box on your invitation and contact the bride for further information. Our reception menu will be posted once our planning stage is finalized. And a note on the cookie table: the bride does not want to have to enter nurse mode at her wedding, so please refrain from eating a pastry if you are not sure of its contents.

What Is the Dress Code?

We would love to see our friends and family dressed up for our special day! Our dress code is formal. For men, a dark suit and tie is perfect, but you may wear a tux; for women, a long gown or a sophisticated cocktail dress is perfect. We ask that you avoid jeans or other casual wear. Our ceremony will be held in a church, so we encourage everyone to wear modest attire out of respect for one another and for the sacred space. Gentlemen, we ask that clothing not be overly tight, and ladies, please choose an outfit that allows you to stand, sit, and kneel comfortably. Throughout their lives and relationship, Nick and Audrey have been inspired by the beauty of many saints, each contributing to their growth as individuals and soon-to-be husband and wife. With that in mind, Nick and Audrey would like to share just a few of our favorite saints, hoping to inspire others as they grow in love and faith together.

St. Gianna Molla

Saint Gianna Beretta Molla beautifully expressed her commitment to love and family when she wrote, "I have found you, and I intend to get myself totally in order to form a truly Christian family" in a letter to her fiancé, Pietro Molla. This quote resonates deeply with the couple, as it exemplifies the profound dedication and selflessness that characterize a loving and faith-filled marriage. Saint Gianna’s life is a shining example of Christian charity and generosity; she prioritized her family and demonstrated the importance of strong motherhood through her unwavering love and sacrifices. Audrey and Nick admire how Saint Gianna embodied the essence of nurturing and self-giving love, reminding her of the vital role that a mother plays in the family and the impact of faith in shaping a home. By embracing the call to form a Christian family, she inspires others to cultivate a spirit of love, compassion, and service. St. Pope John Paul II

Audrey's pick, Saint Pope John Paul II, has always held a special place in her heart as a personal patron and teacher. His preaching, particularly his Theology of the Body audiences, have significantly shaped her understanding of love and marriage. That understanding has shaped Audrey and Nicholas' commitment to a relationship rooted in faith and mutual respect. Pope John Paul II’s insights into the beauty of marriage highlight the unique dignity of men and women, emphasizing that "the ultimate purpose of [each] is to become a gift for one another." His profound understanding of the sacrament of marriage encourages couples to recognize their vocation as a reflection of divine love. Additionally, he stated, "Man cannot fully find himself except through a sincere gift of himself," reminding every couple of the importance of selflessness in their journey together. He also called married people to "stand for life! To respect and defend the mystery of life, always, and everywhere" urging us to offer real help and encouragement for our friends and family welcoming new life into the world and those preparing for and mourning the end of life, and all its stages in between. That message deeply informs Audrey's daily work as a nurse, where she strives to uphold the sanctity of life in every moment. It inspires Nick and Audrey as they prepare for their future together, instilling in them a deep desire to welcome many happy and holy children into their family. Through the wisdom and prayers of John Paul II, they are inspired to embrace their roles as faithful partners for life, striving to create a marriage that reflects the beauty of God’s design for human relationships and the preciousness of life itself. His teachings not only strengthen their bond but also serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement as they look forward to building a family rooted in faith and love.

St. Ignatius of Antioch

One of Nicholas' favorite saints, Ignatius, bishop of Antioch in the late first century, offered simple yet profound insights into the beauty of Christian life. Writing to his dear friend, St Polycarp, he exhorted the Christian faithful to "labor together with one another, strive in company together, run together, suffer together, rest together, and awake together, as the stewards, and associates, and servants of God." While this is the call of all Christians, it has particular value for Nicholas and Audrey as they approach marriage. On the day that they promise to one another "to be faithful to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love you and to honor you all the days of my life," Audrey and Nicholas will be seeking to follow the method modeled by St Ignatius' masterful preaching. They will remain fixed on "the prize set before [them], immortality and eternal life."

What Is A Cookie Table?

The Cookie Table is a wedding tradition deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, inherited from the Italian and Eastern European communities. At weddings, instead of (or in addition to!) a cake, guests are treated to an elaborate spread of homemade cookies, often presented on a beautifully decorated table. This cookie table is usually overflowing with a wide variety of flavors, textures, and family recipes. The preparation of the cookies is a labor of love, often involving days or weeks of baking by family members and friends. The cookies can range from traditional favorites like chocolate chip, thumbprints, and buckeyes to more unique or regional specialties such as ladylocks (cream horns), pizzelles (Italian waffle cookies), and nut rolls.

We are so excited to have you join us for our special day! For your convenience, we’ve reserved a hotel block at the Hilton for the nights of July 24th–27th, 2025, with rooms available at $169 per night. You can book your stay using the link below.
